Meeting at the intersection of set design and painterly production, Lauren King and Penelope Comino’s Untitled (Beachside Christmas) installation utilises the found object as a springboard for spatial exploration. Beginning with the foundational concept of the department store Christmas window, the pair have pushed through the layers of effervescent energy and tradition to create a work of found sculpture that encourages ironic reflection and un-ironic adoration of the slower moments of life.

Comino’s oeuvre, primarily in freelance design and production, informs her interpretation of space and composition, and equips her with the ability to create self-contained, narrative-driven dioramas.

King’s painterly background, and highly fastidious attention to detail, tightens the sometimes loose edges of the found object medium, and anchors the piece in a wider schematic of art-historical knowledge.

King and Comino’s work will be installed in the FORA/squared window from early December 2020 to mid-January 2021.
